Membership Renewal Exercise 2019

The annual membership renewal exercise was successfully completed with the unfailing support from all site representatives.  As of 31 March 2019, there are 552 ordinary members and 390 life members.  We have a total of 942 members, representing over 78% of the AP grade. 

The GITPA membership list has been posted onto the GITPA blog in KICP.  If you find any discrepancies, please inform our Membership Secretary (Mr. Tony WP HO at 2860 6051) immediately so that we could make necessary amendments accordingly.

The 2018-19 GITPA Executive Committee (ExCo) would like to thank all members for putting trust on us, supporting us by providing views to us and participating in our events throughout the year.

Online Voting of Best Pottery

Upcoming Event

The 2019 GITPA Annual General Meeting (AGM) cum Annual Dinner will be held on 14 May 2018 (Tuesday) at the Hong Kong Medical Association Club House (Wanchai Premises).  We will share our work and activities in the year 2018-19.  New GITPA ExCo for year 2019-20 will be also elected.

All GITPA members are cordially invited to the AGM to participate in the election of the new GITPA ExCo and meet other colleagues.  The online voting result of the best pottery will be announced in the AGM where awards will be presented.  So, please join us to share the fruitful moment!

GITPA – 陶藝創作工作坊

The pottery (clay modeling) workshop 「GITPA – 陶藝創作工作坊」 was successfully held on 24 March 2019 (Sunday), which was our last workshop organized by 2018-19 GITPA. A total of 20 colleagues, their family members and friends joined this activity.

Pottery is a creative process to make a vessel or any objects with clay. In the 3-hour workshop, the professional instructors first explained and demonstrate the basic but essential skills, for example, like how to make the clay into the desired shape using the instrument, to our participants. Afterward, it was the time for them to give full scope to creativity and imagination.

The instructors suggested the most useful products were cups or plates. The gist of making beautiful products was the fresh plants and flowers prepared by the workshop. The plants were put onto the surface of the semi-product as a decoration. Of course, the final products were needed to be heated and firing. We will see the masterpieces one week later and remember to check it out in our next issue!

MEETING WITH OGCIO GRADE MANAGEMENT

The Minutes of 45^th meeting between OGCIO Grade Management and GITPA was uploaded to the OGCIO Portal.  We welcome any views or comments from our colleagues after you read it.

COMING ACTIVITY

GITPA Annual General Meeting cum Dinner 2019 will be scheduled at 14 May 2019 (Tuesday). During the meeting, the next Ex-Co will be elected. Before that, if you are interested to become our next Ex-Co, please do not hesitate to contact us through email or any other possible means!

News from GITPA (February 2019)

GITPA豬年新春行大運

The GITPA’s Lunar New Year hiking activity「GITPA – 豬年新春行大運」 was successfully held on 13 February 2019 (Sunday).

A total of 24 colleagues, their family members and friends joined the activity.  We gathered at Sun Yat-Sen Place of The University of Hong Kong and started the hiking with a joyful atmosphere.

The trail this year was famous for the historical landmarks along the way.  The first one we encountered was the “City Boundary Stone” (維多利亞城界碑) for the “City of Victoria” from 1903.  There are only six stones left in Hong Kong Island and deserve our attention for better conservation.  After walking for 30 minutes, we arrived at the “Pinewood Battery Heritage Trail” (松林廢堡歷史徑).  The battery was built in 1905 and severely damaged during the “Battle of Hong Kong” in 1941.  Now it is a Grade II conservation status.  Another check-point for the hiking was “Victoria Peak Garden”, which is the former summer residence of the Governor of Hong Kong.  Although there are only the “Gate Lodge” (舊總督山頂別墅守衛室) and the granite foundations remained, we still can see the Victorian style pavilions and lawn with British Garden after the renovation project by our government in 2007.

We took a rest at the Peak Tower for a moment and then went towards the end point where was near the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir.  It was quite cloudy and foggy in the peak session, but the sunshine still greeted us to make our day a happy ending.  What a pleasure and knowledge gained hiking trip this year!

COMING ACTIVITY

In recent years, we heard a number of members suggested to hold a pottery class.  Now there is the chance!  In March, GITPA will plan to hold the Pottery Workshop.  Please keep a close look for our email notification for details and reserve the limited seats as soon as possible.

HOVER BOARD AND HOVER MAT EXPERIENCE DAY

Happy New Year 2019!  At the beginning of a new year, an indoor activity「GITPA – 電動平衡車、平衡氈體驗日」 was successfully held on 13 January 2019 (Sunday).  27 colleagues, family members and friends joined this exciting and party like activity.

Hover board is a new kind of vehicle which allows people standing on it and controlling the moving direction by feet gesture.  While the hover mat is a mini “car” version of hover board which can be controlled by car levers.

In the two hours of activity time, two separate sessions were allocated for two activities. Everybody had to practice how to ride with the hover board.  It was difficult for the first time player to stand on it and make it move straightly.  After practicing for about 10 minutes, most of them could enjoy playing with the different speed.  Some of the skilled players even tried to challenge the inclined road!

Another session was the racing period for hover mat.  Unlike hover board session, there was no learning lesson as they couldn’t wait to race with each other!  Some players managed to turn around the corner at an extreme speed!  It was more exciting than the players expected.

Since the venue cannot serve all to play at the same time, some entertaining facilities like video game, snooker and other game machines were provided to kill the idle time.

COMING ACTIVITY

Every year  GITPA  will hold the hiking event as a good chance for all of our members and friends to enjoy the nature together after Lunar New Year.   This year, the「GITPA – 豬年新春行大運」will be held on 17 February 2019 (Sunday).  The route we planned is the famous “Hong Kong Trail”.   The trail passes through the Peak and the popular Pinewood Battery Heritage.  We can also learn more history from this trip.  Can’t wait to see you in our group photo in next issue!

WAR GAME EXPERIENCE DAY

The indoor war game experience day「GITPA – War Game體驗日」 was successfully held on 16 December 2018 (Sunday).42 colleagues, family members and friends joined this funny and exciting activity.

War game is usually regarded as an effective team-building activity.  But this time, the participants were told to enjoy the game as much as possible!  After listening to the instruction, all the participants were divided into three teams randomly and armed with safety masks and toy guns.  Then they went straight to the battlefield!

There were three different themes and set-ups, “scrap yards”, “maze with traps” and “maze in an ancient castle”, for the gamers to play with by turns.  The game rule was simple.  Two teams one versus one in a 10-minute round.  When you were hit with the bubble bullet by an enemy, you should claim you had defected.  After each round, the judge would count how many survivors in each team and determined the winner.  The winning team then could continue to fight with another stand-by team.

Different teams had their own strategies.  Some chose to hide in a dark corner and snipe the enemy, while some chose to attack actively!  Could you guess the final winner?  You might think the team with the largest number of male players should win.  The answer is, the team consisted of the greatest number of children won easily as they have unlimited energy and invulnerable bodies!  Despite the exhausting game, all the participants gave the most positive feedbacks and hoped to revenge next time.

COMING ACTIVITY

Get bored with traditional bicycle or skateboard?  GITPA  will first time hold an indoor activity「GITPA – 電動平衡車、平衡氈體驗日」on 13 January 2019 (Sunday).  The hover board (平衡車) and hover mat (平衡氈) are the new types of moving vehicles which allow the players to feel the speed and the excitement in a safe environment.  Can’t wait to see the photos and the feedbacks from our participants in next issue!

LUNA LAMP WORKSHOP

The Luna Lamp Workshop「GITPA – 月球燈手作坊」 was successfully held on 4 November 2018 (Sat). 16 colleagues, family members and friends joined this activity.

The workshop lasted for about four hours. It was not as easy as the participants thought.  First, they needed to inject the chemical liquid into the mold which weighted some 5 pounds. Then they lifted and rotated the mold continuously for 25 minutes, in order to make the liquid spread smoothly and evenly inside.

Alongside waiting for the “Luna” to take shape, the participants decorated the wooden stand of the lamp. They could choose to use an equipment to engrave the outline of their favourite pictures, or to paint directly with water color. After installing the moon lamp, the beautiful as well as useful art piece was born!

All of the participants were satisfied with their final products. Most importantly, the workshop itself provided a precious and enjoyable time!

COMING ACTIVITY

While the mobile shooter game is very prevalent in recent years, now it is chance for you to go from online to offline. GITPA will hold an indoor「GITPA – War Game體驗日」 on 16 December 2018 (Sunday).

INDOOR CLIMBING FUN DAY

The indoor rock climbing class 「GITPA — 攀石同樂日」 was successfully held on October 13 2018 (Sat). 27 colleagues, family members and friends joined this funny and challenging activity.

After all participants gathered, they were guided by the professional trainers to do the stretching and warm up exercise together.

There were four different pre-defined routes with different level of difficulties. All participants tried to climb and feel the rock wall one by one first. But they could not wait too long to climb to the top, especially for the kids!

The goal of this sport is to reach the highest endpoint and touch the top of the wall. After some practices with the basic route, all the participants gained the fulfillment. Then they challenged the more difficult one. It was a huge discrepancy as some even failed to reach the top at the first try! However, as long as they did not give up and got some rest before the second time, all of them had achieved the target successfully.

It was really an enjoyable and meaningful activity for all the participants. Hope to see you next time if you miss it.

We have rescheduled the Luna Lamp Workshop to November 2018 due to the typhoon in September. We finally could see the beautiful art pieces from our colleagues in the next issue.

News from GITPA (September 2018)

MEETING WITH AP GRADE MANAGEMENT

As stated in our work direction, GITPA will liaise and have regular meetings with AP Grade Management. During the last meeting on 30 July 2018, we discussed various topics including sustainable staff development, succession planning for AP Grade, staff promotion, staff wastage, recruitment, staff relation activities and staff communications etc. The minutes have been uploaded to OGCIO portal, available at this link. We will keep close liaison with AP Grade Management and the next meeting with them will be held in January 2019.

POSTPONED LUNA LAMP WORKSHOP TO NOVEMBER

Due to the strong typhoon Mangkhut (山竹), GITPA had postponed the Luna Lamp Workshop (originally held on 15 September and 16 September) to November 2018. Members and friends who have enrolled in the workshop should have received our notice about the coming arrangement. If concerned members have any questions, please contact our social convener Alpha Wong at 2829-5743 for the most updated information.

COMING ACTIVITY

Do you want to take the lead in experiencing the healthy and challenging rock climbing activity before it becomes the hit after the 2020 Summer Olympics? GITPA will first hold a Rock Climbing Fun Day (攀石同樂日) on 13 October 2018 (Sat). Participants would increase the understanding of the sports climbing and hopefully be able to master the basic skills at this event!

FUN ARCHERY CLASS

The fun archery class「GITPA — 射箭體驗班」was successfully held on August 18 2018 (Sat). 27 colleagues, family members and friends joined this event.

The class began with a briefing session held by a professional instructor. Some basic skills, rules and more importantly, the safety rules and measures were introduced. After the demonstration from the instructor, all participants were divided into three groups to practise. It was fun and also very challenging.

The climax came with the competition after three rounds of practice. The three groups were reformed to four teams and then to compete with each other!

It was definitely an enjoyable afternoon with laughter and sweat!
